Thoughts About Thanksgiving/Black Friday

On Thanksgiving, I went to New Jersey to spend time with my family. There was a lot of food on the table (although the turkey was not the best), and it was fun to spend time with my family. Thanksgiving is a time when people can spend time with their family, and be thankful for everything that they have. It’s a time for people to give back to their community, and have to not worry about anything for a day. I was watching the news, and saw that people were at shelters volunteering their time on Thanksgiving to give food to the poor and/or needy people. I thought that was very nice of them, considering the fact that they are giving up their own time to help others. That’s one way people give back to their community, and they showed that they do not take what they have for granted.

On Black Friday, I went shopping like most people in America. However, unlike most people who woke up early to go shopping, or lined up outside of stores from Thursday night, I went shopping in the afternoon, and found it much easier. There were still a lot of sales, and I was able to buy new clothes without fighting with people over them. The checkout lines were not as long as I predicted they would be, and the sales workers moved quickly. I felt bad for the sales workers though, considering the fact that they had to wake up early in the morning and start working. I heard one employee at Macy’s saying to another “I have been here since four A.M, and I’m ready to go.” I felt bad for them, and wondered what would make them want to work so early in the morning, on one of the busiest shopping days of the year? Were they getting paid more than they would to work on a regular day? Considering the fact that Black Friday follows right after Thanksgiving, I was amazed that the employees could wake up and work on little or no sleep. I personally like black Friday, as it is a day where a lot of stores have huge sales and it’s the time to start buying Christmas presents for people. I think that people who think we should not shop on Black Friday should not complain to other people who do, or make fun of them. Everyone has their own views about Black Friday, and some people like lining up hours before the stores open to make sure they get the best deals. However, I think stores should take security measures to make sure nobody gets hurt, as shown in the Walmart Stampede.
